In-person Austin studio candlemaking workshop on Barton Springs Road

Practical bench laboratory training for independent makers and craft patrons. Join our candlemaking workshop austin class to formulate, calculate, pour, and cure your custom vessel.

25.99 USD Per person · Materials included

We do not run novelty craft nights with pre-melted mystery wax. Attendees work directly with analytical balances, dial thermometers, raw Golden 464 soy wax flakes, and concentrated botanical aroma compounds. You calculate your own container mass and pour a calibrated candle from scratch.

Workshop session parameters and bench syllabus

Every workshop session runs for two intensive hours at our dedicated formulation benches.

Class progression from calculation to poured vessel

Attendees move through five deliberate bench steps during the two-hour studio session.

Step 1: Volumetric Calculation Measure jar brimful volume with water or calipers. Calculate exact wax flake mass using our standard formula: Wax Mass (g) = Vessel Volume (ml) × 0.86. You can review the arithmetic beforehand on our Batch formulation calculator.
Step 2: Thermal Melting Weigh soy flakes on digital bench balances. Transfer to aluminum pour pitchers and melt over controlled water baths to 185°F, monitoring temperature with digital probe sensors.
Step 3: Fragrance Compounding Calculate fragrance oil percentage (6% to 10%). Measure pure aroma oils using precision pipettes into glass beakers. Blend into molten wax at 180°F with two minutes of controlled agitation.
Step 4: Wick Calibration & Pouring Match wick diameter to container geometry using our burn test matrix. Anchor wick tab with thermal adhesive, secure with steel centering clips, and pour at exactly 135°F to ensure satin tops.
Step 5: Cure Science Briefing Review the fourteen-day triglyceride crystallization cycle, wick trimming techniques, and first-burn memory protocols as detailed in our Cure science and burn testing guide.

Studio rules and bench attendance constraints

Clear laboratory boundaries maintain workshop safety and formulation precision.

Laboratory Safety Wax baths reach 185°F and hot glass requires deliberate handling. Closed-toe leather or canvas footwear is required. We provide natural heavy canvas studio aprons and protective thermal gloves for pouring operations.
Age Requirements Participants must be 16 years or older to operate melting equipment independently. Attendees aged 12 to 15 may participate when paired with an adult registered attendee at an adjacent station.
Cure Pickup Window Freshly poured soy wax requires 48 hours of undisturbed cooling before moving through transit vibration. Poured candles remain on our studio racks for 48 hours; attendees return for pickup or elect flat-rate local parcel dispatch ($6 USD).
Production Supplies Attendees wishing to replicate their formulas at home can order bulk materials directly from our wax bases, fragrance oils, and starter kits inventory.
