Combustion Physics and Empirical Bench Testing

Wick sizing cannot be guessed from cosmetic jar dimensions. Scent load percentage, wax melting curves, and inside container diameters govern whether a flame generates complete combustion or carbon smoke.

2020 Master Artisan Active

Tested across thousands of studio formulation pours by our Austin candlemaker operating since 2020.

0% Lead & Zinc Cores

Every cotton assembly utilizes pure vegetable fiber and paper filaments without metallic core wiring.

100% State Registration

Registered Texas commercial business entity with verified raw material supply invoices available upon inquiry.

Braided Cotton Coreless Wicks

Flat-braided unbleached cotton threads woven with structural paper filaments. The flat braid geometry causes the tip to curl into the highest-temperature outer mantle of the flame as it burns, resulting in self-trimming performance that minimizes soot deposition in soy wax flakes.

Native American Cherry Wood Wicks

Precision-milled 0.03-inch single-ply cherry wood harvested under sustainable domestic forestry standards. The wide horizontal combustion blade generates a broader melt pool than conventional round wicks, accelerating aromatic throw while producing a distinct auditory crackle.

Bench Assembly and Sustainer Setting Protocol

Proper wick alignment dictates uniform melt pools. Follow our studio protocol during batch candle making supplies preparation.

Step 1 — Vessel Degreasing Wipe interior base with 90% isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and annealing residue. Allow complete evaporation.
Step 2 — High-Tack Adhesive Placement Affix thermal adhesive glue dots to the 15mm steel tab base. Press firmly onto the geometric center point of the vessel floor.
Step 3 — Tension Bar Centering Thread cotton braid through an aluminum centering bow, applying light vertical tension to prevent wick migration during hot wax pour.
Step 4 — Post-Cure Trimming Allow 48 hours minimum before cutting cotton wicks to exactly 1/4 inch (6mm) and wood wicks to 3/16 inch (4.5mm).

Combustion Failure Modes and Objections Answered

We operate transparently. Here are common wick failure reasons and the parameters our Austin studio refuses to support.

The Lead Wire Hazard We refuse to stock wire-core zinc or lead wicks. While they stand upright easily in paraffin, they release toxic airborne oxides and burn excessively hot in soy.
Fragrance Clogging (The Drown Out) When fragrance oil load exceeds 10%, unbonded oil droplets drown the capillary action of the cotton braid, extinguishing the flame. Never exceed our documented wax load limits.
Wood Wick Ignition Sensitivity Untrimmed wood wicks will smolder and self-extinguish. If a wood wick is left longer than 3/16 inch, the flame cannot draw molten wax up the flat wood pores. Proper trimming is mandatory.
Who This Is Not For Makers looking for generic pre-cut wicks without specified diameter ratings. Our wicks are engineered strictly for calibrated vessel pairings.
